The South African Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Meeting 2019

Dr Kalaaji was invited to The South African Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Meeting which was held in Cape Town on 22 – 24 March 2019.

He gave a total of 7 lectures which were very well received by the participants. See below:

- Intimate surgery

He lectured on his study of 242 procedures in intimate surgery about the various techniques, how to achieve the best possible result and how to avoid complications. Dr. Kalaaji has also had his research published in the well-known journal Aesthetic Surgery Journal.

- Rhinoplasty

Via an anonymous survey, he has investigated the quality of life before and after of patients who have undergone a nose operation and thus gained valuable knowledge which he shared in the lecture.

-Body sculpting

Liposuction and fat transplants

How do you judge which patients are suitable for such? surgeries .

He went through the importance of a thorough assessment of the patient before a surgery becomes

carried out and close follow-up afterwards. He considered the countless possibilities that exist within this type of intervention and attached many examples of this.

– Mommy makeover, combined interventions (several interventions in the same session). Patient safety and challenges associated with this, pain relief and convalescence.

Dr. Kalaaji gave a lecture on Mommy makeovers and other combined interventions where several areas are operated on in the same session, about the challenges of such surgeries and patient safety. A trend that is increasing in demand. More and more women who have undergone one or more pregnancies are requesting a Mommy makeover. The body has changed after the pregnancies and they want to correct this.

Mommy makover is a combination procedure that is done in one session, for example breast plastic, tummy tuck and liposuction. Not everyone will be good candidates for such interventions. The patient must first be carefully assessed before any surgery can be undertaken.

-Butt augmentation with own fat (Brazilian Butt lift, BBL)

He lectured on his experiences of buttock augmentation with own fat, the so-called BBL (Brazilian Butt lift) on safety and methods. He has researched this for many years and developed his own method which gives the best results in terms of harvesting and preparing the fat before insertion.

Dr. Kalaaji reviewed the history behind buttock augmentation with own fat (BBL) and the internationally reported complications that have occurred after such a procedure. Especially then

the most serious complications that can occur if it is not done correctly, including several deaths.

He has long gone out nationally and internationally and warned against injecting the fat inside the muscle or under the muscle. He has given lectures and training on what precautions must be taken before a BBL surgery and which methods provide a safe and secure result for the patient. He has specified the importance of a thorough patient examination before deciding whether the patient is a good candidate for such a procedure. He lectured on the way in which the fat should be extracted and treated before it is properly inserted under the skin and the importance of not inserting too much fat as this can have consequences for the patient.

Dr. Kalaaji has had this research published in the well-known journal Aesthetic Surgery Journal.

-Breast augmentation with own fat

He reviewed the various reasons why women choose breast augmentation with their own fat over implants.

He talked about his own research where he has followed 156 patients who have undergone such an intervention over a long period through checks and interviews.

He explained the various techniques for harvesting and preparing the fat, which he has researched for many years and which give the best and most long-lasting results.

Dr. Kalaaji further explains that this is a surgical technique that requires a lot of experience to master and therefore it is recommended that this type of surgery is only performed by experienced plastic surgeons.

He has also published an article about this in the medical magazine "Kirurgen" and in "Body Language journal".

- New trends in breast augmentation

More and more people choose to undergo a so-called (Hybrid treatment) again Breast where fat and implants are placed at the same time or fat is placed after the implants have been inserted to increase the volume, improve asymmetry or to increase the volume in certain areas of the chest such as at the bottom or at the cleavage. It can also be used to camouflage so-called rippling, which can occur in very slim women who have little fat under the skin. An alternative may then be to transplant fat.
