Oslo Plastic Surgery participated in MASC in Kiev 31.05-01.06.19.

Our chief physician Dr. Kalaaji gave 6 lectures and participated as moderator during 4 sessions.

He lectured on the following topics:

1. Correction of Asian eyes.

He reviewed his research based on 61 patients who have undergone this procedure, their quality of life before and after and talked about the techniques of this type surgery.

2. Combined procedures where multiple areas are operated on in the same session, about the challenges of such surgeries and patient safety. A trend that is increasing in demand. An example of this is the mommy makeover. The body has changed after pregnancies and they want to correct this. The mommy makeover is a combination procedure that is done in one session, such as a boob job, tummy tuck and liposuction. Not everyone will be a good candidate for these procedures. The patient must first be carefully assessed before any surgery can be performed.

3. Chin augmentation with your own fat, can this replace implants?

He talked about the methods he uses, the benefits of using fat grafting versus implants and showed before and after pictures of this patient group.

4. Butt augmentation with your own fat (Brazilian Butt lift, BBL)

He talked about his experience of buttock augmentation with his own fat, so-called BBL (Brazilian Butt lift), about safety and methods. He has researched this for many years and developed his own method that gives the best results in terms of harvesting and preparing the fat before insertion. Dr. Kalaaji reviewed the history of BBL and the internationally reported complications that have occurred after such a procedure. In particular, the most serious complications that can occur if it is not done correctly, including several deaths.

He has for a long time been speaking out nationally and internationally to warn against injecting fat into muscle or under muscle. He has given lectures and training in the precautions that must be taken before a BBL surgery and which methods provide a safe and secure result for the patient. He has emphasized the importance of a thorough patient examination before deciding whether the patient is a good candidate for such a procedure. He lectured on the way the fat should be extracted and processed before it is inserted safely under the skin and the importance of not inserting too much fat as this can have consequences for the patient.

Dr. Kalaaji has had this research published in the renowned Aesthetic Surgery Journal.

5. New trends in breast augmentation

More and more people are choosing to undergo a so-called (Hybrid treatment) to Breast where fat and implants are placed at the same time or fat is placed after the implants have been inserted to increase volume, improve asymmetry or to increase volume in certain areas of the breast such as at the bottom or at the cleavage. It can also be used to camouflage so-called rippling, which can occur in very slim women who have little fat layer under the skin. An alternative may then be to transplant fat.

6. Breast augmentation with implants/breast lift with insertion of implants

He presented the results of his own research based on an anonymous survey of women who have undergone breast augmentation with implants versus breast lift with implants. He has followed these women over a long period of time and through the detailed survey learned about their quality of life before and after the procedure.
