Interview with Dagbladet about the growing interest in buttock augmentation

Plastic surgeon reports a "butt boom" among Norwegian women, but warns against expecting a Kardashian rear. Here in Norway too, there are few who have admitted that they have had help to fill out their buttocks, but according to plastic surgeons, senior doctors and Dr. Med. Amin Kalaaji at Oslo Plastic Surgery has seen an increasing number of women from all walks of life visit his clinic over the past few years.

"Two years ago there was an increase in the request. I have no clear explanation as to why," says Kalaaji to Dagbladet. He uses fat transplantation when he is going to enlarge a woman's rear, and transfers fat from the stomach, hips and thighs to the buttocks during the operation. "That way you can shape the whole figure, so that the proportions are appropriate".

“I never recommend implants . It is associated with complications such as rejection and infection. It is not the best for a long-term result". Kalaaji's theory about the "butt boom" that took hold two years ago is a combination of increased knowledge about fat grafting and celebrities with shapely rear ends.

“Kim Kardashian has probably influenced a lot of people, but her butt is disproportionate to her body. It sends the wrong signal to all girls, who have expectations that this is something they will get if they go under the knife. It is completely unrealistic and in many cases undesirable," says the plastic surgeon sternly, adding:

"Women who only want a 'balloon enlargement' of their buttocks are rejected." Kalaaji emphasizes that lying on the operating table to enlarge the buttocks is not without risk, regardless of which method is used.

"It is not a harmless surgery . You have to be very careful as a doctor, and this can lead to serious complications such as nerve damage, infection, wounds and blood clots," he says. At the same time, he is clear that it is safer to have surgery in Norway than abroad. "We know that many clinics around the world entice with low prices and spa trips, but we strongly advise against going abroad for surgery. You don't know the knowledge at that clinic, and you have no guarantees for the treatment," claims the plastic surgeon.
