Aim
Fat grafting has been a well­known clinical method for reconstruction of small defects. Recently it has been used for the face and for breast reconstruction and breast augmentation as an alternative to breast implants.

Patients
Since 2008, the Oslo Plastikkirurgi Clinic has performed 54 breast enlargements (in 45 patients) with the use of fat grafting to treat hypoplasia mammae and asymmetry, occasionally in combination with other procedures such as abdominoplasty and mastopexy. Patients fulfilled five criteria to become a candidate for surgery: patients must not want the use of foreign objects; have the desire for fat to be removed; have a realistic expectation of how much breast size could be increased; have no history of breast cancer; and agree to undergo radiographic follow­up.

Methods
​The fat was machine­centrifuged for 3 minutes in one group in 24 patients (27 enlargements) and manually centrifuged in another group of 21 patients (28 enlargements). Fat was harvested from the abdomen, thigh, buttocks, or knee and was grafted in intersecting and parallel canals through small incisions using a Coleman cannula. A loose bra was worn postoperatively.
