Sweat glands (Hyperhidrosis)
Hyperhidrosis is increased sweating in limited areas of the skin, e.g. palms, head/forehead or armpits. You should have tried other treatments without effect, such as drying preparations. Different methods include medical injections, surgery or liposuction.
3 methods to choose from to reduce sweating.
Medical injection: Blocks the nerve impulse to the sweat glands so that they produce less sweat. The treatment lasts for 9-12 months and then needs to be reviewed again. This is a good treatment method for the hands and forehead as it leaves no scar. It can also be performed in the armpits. The treatment does not require any anesthesia.
Surgery: Removing part of the skin can be a good option, but this leaves scars. However, it is the areas in the axilla where this method is used. Approximately two-thirds of the entire hairy area is removed, thereby reducing sweating. The effect of surgery is in principle permanent.
Liposuction: Can be a good alternative as this does not leave scars, and in principle does not need to be repeated.
For optimal results and to avoid complications, it is recommended that you have as normal a weight as possible. If you smoke, you must quit smoking at least 1 week before surgery and continue without smoking for 2 weeks after surgery.
Before the operation
You must be healthy on the day of the operation. If you have any doubts about whether you have a cold or similar, please contact us. The operation is not performed when you have flu with fever or cough or other infection. Before the operation, you will receive a prescription for antibiotics, painkillers if necessary, and a 40 mg/ml cleansing solution, which you can buy at the pharmacy.
The day before surgery and the day of the operation, you should shower at home with a cleansing solution. This is a disinfectant soap that should be rinsed off with water and the skin dried with a clean towel. Put on clean clothes when you leave home. All jewelry, piercings and nail polish must be removed no later than the day before surgery and put back 7 to 10 days after surgery.
You must come to the operation fasting. This means that you should not eat food 6 hours before the operation, but you can drink water and juice (not milk or juice), chew gum/throat lozenges up to 4 hours before the operation. You must arrange in advance with a person to pick you up at the clinic about 1 hour after the operation, as you will not be able to drive or take a taxi yourself.
It is important that you stop taking blood-thinning medication about 14 days before the operation. For other medications, consult the clinic before the operation. A lot of garlic and health food preparations must also not be consumed.
Where to stay
If you live far from the clinic, we recommend that you stay overnight in or near Oslo.
Oslo Plastic Surgery has agreements with both Hotel Gabelshus, Gabelsgate 16 and Frogner House Hotel Norum, formerly Rica Hotel Bygdøy Allé, Bygdøy Allé 53 - both are located in the immediate vicinity of the clinic.
After the operation
We recommend that you do not travel by plane for the first 48 hours after surgery, during which time a follow-up appointment will be arranged at the clinic. In the first few hours after the operation, you may feel a little tired and sometimes a little nauseous.
It's important that you take painkillers as prescribed and drink plenty of fluids for the first 24 hours. Some people may feel a little dizzy, so it's a good idea to take a few minutes to get up. You should rest for the first two days. The superficial bandage is removed 3 days after the operation. The tape is retained for up to a week, after which you can shower, apply new tape and use the forehead bandage again. Bleeding and infection are uncommon and in very few cases require reoperation and/or antibiotic treatment. Anesthetic complications, such as allergic reactions to anesthetics, are extremely rare. Follow-up appointments are made with the clinic the following day, after 1-2 weeks, 3-6 months, and a final check-up after one year. You must call to arrange the check-ups yourself, or alternatively make an appointment with Oslo Plastic Surgery on the day of the forehead lift operation.
If correction is necessary due to complications or unsatisfactory results, this is done free of charge within a one-year warranty period, provided there is a medical indication and a clear potential for improvement.
